Reimagining coastal resilience.

Expanding the boundaries of coastal protection, this project amalgamates design, civil engineering, and resilience strategy to rethink the future of Singapore's northwestern coast — the Kranji and Sungei Buloh region, historically rich in mangroves but eroded by urbanization and land reclamation. With sea levels projected to rise up to 2 m by 2150, the coastline and its drainage are critical to protect.

The proposal pairs the traditional elevated-platform typology with modern technology. Using parametric mangrove modeling — a digital-twin of the wetland — mangrove placement is optimized for health and wave attenuation, while biorock bioremediation and floating solar breakwaters reinforce the living edge. The result is a regenerative wetland: infrastructure that protects by growing.
