The Coralith

Prototypes \ hybrids \ cyborgs \ monsters.

The Coralith is an exploration in infrastructural imaginaries — hybrid, monstrous machines that operate with, within, and as part of the ocean. Building on coastal-resilience research carried out with the Centre for Climate Adaptation (CCA) Singapore, the studio extends that work into speculative terrain, investigating new forms of productive occupation along our coasts.

Through an iterative process of reading, cataloguing, undoing, making, and remaking, the project assembles techno-human assemblages of hybridized infrastructure — wave attenuators and an electrical grid, kelong and IMTA aquaculture, recreational tidal pools, and accreted biorock sculpture — all grown from a core coral nursery and biorock foundation.

Rather than placing architecture as an object within nature, the Coralith collapses the distinction between the built and the ecological. By assimilating and amplifying oceanic forces — mineral accretion, tidal exchange, biological growth — it becomes inseparable from the systems that sustain it: not a static form, but the continuous activation of living, metabolic processes.
